The main motivation used by Genghis Khan would be the Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs. For every battle won, he would reward and celebrate with his men, rewarding his men with honor of victory, whine, women and food. He provides his warriors and their family with what they need and does his best to satisfy his people. However, on the battle field, he would motivate his men with intrinsic motivation. As a leader, Genghis Khan is does not fear death. He would lead his army by himself, putting his life on the line to raise the spirit of the soldiers for their best performance.
Intrinsic motivation is the motivation that will work best from my point of view. The reason being that intrinsic is the motivation within yourself, something you want. When a person’s attention is caught, the will power within one is very unpredictable. Therefore, they will be able to perform better and become better for themselves.
